The majority of Australians now spend more time online than offline, as their consumption of entertainment content continues to increase.

"Australian consumers are spending more time engaging with entertainment content across more devices," revealed Monique Perry, Head of Media Industry Group for Nielsen, at the Mumbrella Entertainment Marketing Summit in Sydney.

According to data from Nielsen, 18.8 million Australians are connecting with entertainment content every month - almost all of the internet-connected population of the country. Of that, around 93% of smartphone users and 97% of tablet users are watching entertainment content on their devices.

Every month 16.8 million Australians watch videos and movies, 13.1 million listen to music and 14.1 million play games. Broadcast television remains a staple with traditional television, catch-up and time-shifted viewing still dominant. Online gaming and streaming services are also starting to make a serious mark.
