Can augmented reality save the planet? Snap’s going to try

Snap is experimenting with AR shopping features that help customers try on items digitally – the camera company is now hoping that it can use that same technology to save firms money and help reduce waste.

If there was ever a trend that shows how difficult it is to predict how close or how far we are from a technology’s high point, it’s augmented reality. I first read about augmented reality in around 2010, in an edition of Wallpaper magazine dedicated to looking ahead at technologies that would be significant in the coming decade. And, in fairness, AR is closer to the mainstream than it’s ever been before, but it still has a way to go before it finds its killer app.
