What is speech-enabled IVR?
IVR is the English acronym for Interactive Voice Recognition or Interactive Voice Response which, in telecommunications, refers to an automatic interaction system that makes interaction between people and computer by applying voice as the linking element. It may be enabled unidirectionally or bi-directionally:
- Unidirectional voice-enabled: Programmed recorded human voice allows computer to instruct or ask questions to respondent, who interacts by using a keypad.
- Bidirectional voice-enabled: Recorded and programmed human voice allows computer to instruct or ask questions to respondent, who is able to “talk” to computer, which uses voice recognition to process and store user’s responses.
