Objectives

Background and challenges: Missing Persons in Australia and the role of MPAN

Each year in Australia, approximately 38,0001 people are reported to authorities as 'missing' by their loved ones. Whilst over 60% are usually found within 48hrs, there are thousands who seemingly vanish without a trace.

The impact on the families, friends and colleagues of a person who goes missing is one of profound trauma. When a person goes missing, research has shown that more than 12 people are directly and severely impacted emotionally, psychologically and financially by the event. However little support exists for those left behind to deal with the trauma of having a loved one go missing.
