CCWD: The commitment

Center for Child Wellbeing and Development (CCWD), a research centre, combated the centuries-old harmful practice of child marriage in Malawi through a social experiment grounded in insight.


Malawi is among the top 20 countries in the world – and top 10 in Africa – with the highest rates of child marriage (UNICEF Global Databases, 2019). It is a centuries-old practice deeply rooted in local culture, especially in less urbanized areas of the country.

But despite of being a long-standing tradition, child marriage strongly compromises the development of girls.
