Dastkar, an Indian NGO, helped American Express support local craftswomen in India by sharing its stories on the ‘Her Craft’ podcast series and its accompanying media.

Situation Analysis:

Women are the silent, often unseen heart of Indian crafts. In the last two years, the pandemic and ensuing lockdowns have led to debilitating losses for craftswomen involved in small-scale enterprises. Due to major disruption of economic activities, a chain reaction ensued, of loss of financial independence, inability to make sales, cancellation of orders, inability to pay wages amongst several others. Committed to help communities, American Express India identified Dastkar, a non-profit society of crafts and craftspeople, to provide a grant of INR 10 million to support the craftswomen.
