Amazon and Walmart outpace e-commerce market, Target lags behind

Amazon, Target and Walmart have now reported their full 2022 year results, enabling a thorough analysis of their performance. According to these results, it is clear that Amazon and Walmart’s performance in the last quarter of 2022 exceeded that of the e-commerce market as a whole as reported by the US Census. Amazon’s gross merchandise value (GMV) grew 16% year over year in Q4 of 2022, while Walmart’s GMV grew 17%.

In contrast, Target underperformed, with e-commerce sales decreasing 3.3% and e-commerce penetration declined from 21.8% a year prior to 20.8% in 2022.
