Disney+ adds 12.4m subscribers, mostly in Asia

An overview of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ video streaming subscribers.

Disney+ has reached 116.0m paid subscribers in Q2 2021, an increase of 12.4m from the previous quarter and double the level from the previous year, according to the latest company report.

In comparison, Netflix added 1.5m subscribers to reach a total of 209.2m in Q2 2021.

Most of this growth has come from the Disney+ Hotstar service, which is available in India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said the service accounts for "a little less than 40%" of the 116.0m total. This is equal to about 45m subscribers, up from about 34m in Q1 2021...
