Walmart provides delivery for other retailers
Walmart is building on its logistics expertise with the launch of Walmart GoLocal, described as “white-label delivery as a service” and available to both local and national retailers across the US.
Why it matters
The pandemic has accelerated a shift into e-commerce by traditional retailers which may not be able to meet the delivery expectations that have been set by Amazon. The new Walmart service starts to redress that balance while also pitching the retail giant into a new battle against its online rival.
The details
- Merchants signing up for GoLocal can use Walmart’s delivery platform to fulfil orders made through their own websites, the Financial Times reports.
- Walmart is “pinged” whenever a customer places an order with a business using GoLocal, MSN explains. A driver will deliver the item with Walmart capturing any “delivery experience feedback”.
- Self-driving electric vehicles and drones may also be deployed in future, CNBC adds.
Key quote
“We’ve designed Walmart GoLocal to be customizable for merchants of all sizes and categories so they can focus on doing what they do best, leaving delivery speed and efficiency to us” – Tom Ward, SVP/Last Mile at Walmart US.
