E-commerce & mobile retail Asia (general region)
Shoppers in Asia-Pacific have made the switch to online shopping this festive season, with smartphones by far the most popular means of carrying out purchases, finds the Holiday Shopping Survey from Adcolony.
- Indonesia (94%), the Philippines (93%) and Thailand (91%) have the highest share of shoppers preferring to shop via their phones, while more than half of consumers in Japan (71%), Malaysia (81%), Singapore (67%), and Australia (54%), also said they prefer buying on their phones.
- More than 82% of shoppers in APAC say they prefer ordering online to avoid physical contact and to contain the spread of COVID-19.
- At least 52% of consumers in Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia said an easy payment process mattered most when shopping on a mobile device.
Increasingly savvy consumers are planning ahead and researching more online before buying. On average, 57% of shoppers in the region said they’d research the best price for a product, and 55% said they’d check product reviews.
