COVID-19 has boosted podcast audiences
Fears the pandemic would decimate podcast audiences have been proved to be misplaced: a GWI study has found that one in four podcast listeners across 18 countries – and 7% of pre-pandemic non-engagers – are listening to more podcasts because of coronavirus.
Why it matters
Prior to COVID-19, many consumers listened to podcasts during moments when visual media are inappropriate – for instance, when commuting or travelling, or working out at the gym. Many predicted (incorrectly, it transpires) that podcast media’s growth would be stymied due to the imposition of quarantine measures.
