US online grocery sales have risen by 80% since March

An overview of US online grocery spending and customers during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

More customers and more frequent orders is driving growth in online groceries in the United States, according to research from food strategists Brick Meets Click and Mercatus.

Over one-third (35%) of households shopped online for groceries in June, equal to 45.6m customers. This is up 2.6m (6.0%) from May and 6.1m (15.4%) from the start of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in March.

Customers are also ordering more frequently per month, with the number of monthly orders per customer rising from just over one (1.2) in March to almost two (1.9) in June. Additional data show that consumers...
