The average individual in the UK watched 3:31 (hours:minutes) of linear TV per day in 2016, according to data from the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB). Linear TV refers to those programmes watched at the time of broadcast, rather than via catch up services. Viewing has remained largely constant since 2005, when average viewing hours were measured at 3:39. Total viewing peaked in 2010/11 on 4:01, but has dipped each year since.
