UK cinema admissions stood at 168.3 million in 2016, data from Digital Cinema Media (DCM) show. This marked a 2.1% dip from a total of 171.9 million recorded in 2015. Data show that cinema admissions have dipped in three of the last five years. Fluctuations in annual admission totals are not uncommon, as footfall is heavily dependent on film releases. The 2016 total compares to a particularly strong year in 2015 during which admissions rose 9.0%, due in part to the release of SPECTRE (box office gross of £93.8m), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (£87.1m), and Jurassic World...
