Publishers lost over £18m in revenue from ad blocking last year

An overview of the amount online publishers lost from ad blocking in the United Kingdom between Q1 2016 and Q4 2018.

UK publishers lost £18.4m in revenue as a result of ad blocking in 2018, according to the latest research from the Assocation for Online Publishing. Among the 11 AOP members that contributed data, the amount of lost revenue from ad blocking has nearly doubled from £9.3m in 2016. The industry body includes News UK, Haymarket and Bauer Media as members.

Despite this, mobile marketers consider ad blocking an issue of declining importance. Indeed, lost revenue appears to have peaked in Q2 2018 and has since fallen in both the third and fourth quarters of 2018.
