New York Times reaches four million paying digital subscribers

The New York Times has topped four million paid digital subscribers, according to the latest company reports. The global newsbrand added 273,000 new digital subscriptions in Q3 2019, the third largest increase ever recorded.

This covers those who have paid for a digital subscription and does not include readers who receive free access as part of their print subscription.

The clear majority (78.9%) of paid digital subscriptions are for the paper's news product, which has 3.2 million readers. However, just under one million (856,000) only subscribe to The New York Times' digital crossword and cooking products. This suggests newsbrands can...
