Netflix under-performs as streaming wars loom

An overview of the difference between actual and forecast Netflix subscriber growth between Q1 2016 and Q3 2019.

Netflix has failed to meet its own subscriber growth forecast, according to the latest company reports. The company expected to add 7.0m paying subscribers globally in Q3 2019. Instead, they added 6.8m, falling short by 0.2m.

This is the second quarter of under-performance in a row for the video-on-demand platform, after registering a poor second quarter of 2019. The company expected 5.0m subscribers to join but added just 2.7m. The platform also lost subscribers in the United States for the first time in nearly a decade.
