CCTV's ad revenue grew by one-third in 2017

An overview of ad revenue growth by channel type in China between 2015-2017.

Advertising revenue from channels in CCTV's portfolio, China's largest commercial broadcaster, rose 31.8% in 2017, according to data from CTR. This was the strongest growth in three years, and was the second consecutive year in which the broadcaster outperformed the wider TV market. Total TV spend in China rose 1.7% to RMB132.8bn in 2017, the first recorded growth since 2013.

Looking at other classifications, ad revenue from channels in provincial capitals rose 2.1%, reversing heavy downturns in 2015 and 2016. Revenue from provincial terrestrial channels was largely flat (+0.1%) in 2017, though this too marked an improvement on...
