Less than half of Americans trust social media with their data

An overview of trust in social media to handle personal data by age group in America.

Less than half of American internet users (aged 16-64) say they trust social media to handle their personal data, according to the latest data from GlobalWebIndex. Those aged 25-34 reported the greatest level of trust (an answer of one or two), at 48.1%. This was followed closely behind by the 16-24 and 35-44 groups, at 44.2% and 43.3% respectively.

The data also indicate that distrust in social media increases with age. Only 21.6% of 16-24 year olds provided an answer of four or five, rising closer to half of those in the 45-54 and 55-64 brackets (44.8% and...
