WhatsApp extends its lead over Facebook in Hong Kong

WhatsApp has extended its lead as the most popular social platform in Hong Kong, according to the latest data from YouGov and the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. This year, 85.4% of internet users have used the platform in the past week. This is up 2.0 percentage points (pp) from 2018.

This comes as second-placed Facebook stabilises, dipping 0.2pp to remain just above four-fiths (80.9%). WeChat and Instagram saw strong growth, however, up 2.3pp to 54.0% and 4.4pp to 41.9% respectively.
