Just over one-tenth of Europeans have paid for or accessed paid online news content in the past year, according to the latest data from YouGov and the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. Across 23 countries and 46,304 internet users, 11.5% said they had paid for a digital news subscription or made a one-off payment for an article, app or e-edition.
Paying for online news is most popular in Norway and Sweden, where one-third (33.8%) and over one-quarter (27.1%) of internet users have done so, respectively. This contrasts with just 6.1% of Croatians.
