Mobile's rapid growth in China driven by search ads

An overview of mobile advertising expenditure by format in China between 2012-2017.

Mobile advertising expenditure in the China rose to a new high of RMB165.0bn in 2017, according to data from WARC and iResearch included in WARC's Adspend Database and International Ad Forecast. This represents a year-on-year increase of 35.7% from 2016, when total spend amounted to RMB121.6bn. Investment in mobile advertising has grown rapidly each year since monitoring began in 2012.

Of the 2017 total, 52.5% (RMB86.7bn) of mobile investment went towards search advertising. Search spend rose 37.2% from RMB63.2bn in 2016, and was over 31 times greater than the RMB2.8bn spent in 2012. Mobile accounts for...
