Programmatic advertising expenditure in Europe amounted to €8.1bn in 2016, according to data from IAB Europe. This represented a 42.7% rise from the €5.7bn spent in 2015, and was over seven times larger than the €984m spent in 2013. The value of programmatic ad trade has grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 69.4% during this period.
The total recorded during 2016 represented half (50.1%) of all online display advertising expenditure in the region, up from a share of 40.0% in 2015 and 18.5% in 2013.
