The 2001 Census data, which have become available during 2003, contain for the first time in the history of the Census, the Social Grading classification, which is in common use by marketing and market research practitioners. It is often referred to as the ABC1 classification, though in fact it consists of six grades which are labelled A, B, C1, C2, D and E.
