Slovak Psychiatrist Society/Janssen: Countering depression during the Covid-19 pandemic

In Slovakia, Slovak Psychiatrist Society, a mental health brand, and Janssen, a pharmaceutical company, used digital tools to target young people to emphasise the importance of depression and its effects on peoples' lives.

Context

  1. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the already existing mental health pandemic. Data shows that young people with a history of depression and anxiety are most affected of all people in Slovakia. 1
  2. Mental health worsened for more than 1/4 and 1/3 indicated that they suffer from depression. 1
  3. Despite the worsening situation, depression is still viewed predominantly with the lens of an insignificant disease, downplayed by the majority population as something trivial, simply: as "feeling blue".
