Social isolation and loneliness are a growing public health epidemic. A recent survey revealed that nearly half (46%) of Americans always or sometimes feel alone. A third of people in the UK say that they 'often' or 'very often' feel lonely. Loneliness has a very real impact on physical health. It has been shown to be as deadly as smoking 15 cigarettes per day, making it as big a health concern as obesity. But while many have noted how devastating loneliness and social isolation are to individual health and society, one thing is continually lacking: solutions.
