The Situation

In June 2017, APM Terminals, a subsidiary of AP Moller-Maersk Group, was hit by one of the largest ever disruptions of the global shipping industry, the Petya ransomware cyber-attack. Infecting the central IT systems and paralysing transshipment port operations, the malicious software affected 17 shopping container terminals run by APM Terminals across the world, including the Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) in Bahrain.
