Over the last decade, India's fast paced industrial progress has been on the back of deteriorating air quality and the notorious distinction of having some of the most polluted cities in the world. With automobiles contributing to a large part of the problem, the Government of India introduced policies like FAME (Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles) and FAME II. However, until last year, none of the automotive giants had taken an initiative to change things on ground.
