The Rise of AppNation

This slide presentation looks at app trends in the US from March 2011 to March 2012. Significant changes include a rise in smartphone penetration to 50%, creating a pool of 84m iOS and Android users, and an increase in the average number of apps from 32 to 41.
However, the total time spent per day remained the same at 38 minutes, and the top 5 apps were static, with Facebook, YouTube, Android Market, Google and Gmail retaining supremacy. Total time spent on apps increased 133% year on year, with social apps singled out for their strong growth. Men were consistently the early adopters of leading apps, but female uptake increased in each of the app categories measured....
