How Lane Bryant successfully challenged beauty stereotypes

This event report outlines how Lane Bryant, the fashion retailer for women, has challenged conventional images of beauty.
In February 2017, Lane Bryant – a retailer specializing in plus-size apparel for women – made a splash with an ad placed in the annual "swimsuit issue" released by Sports Illustrated magazine.

The latest iteration of Time Inc.'s iconic title, as ever, featured images of the year's most popular female models, athletes and celebrities basking in tropical locales. But it also incorporated an un-retouched ad for Lane Bryant's Cacique swimwear line, as worn by plus-size model Denise Bidot, who proudly displayed her curves – and stretch marks.

And the copy accompanying these images simply read: "My confidence … inspired...
