The Indian Language Internet Alliance, a group promoting the growth of Indian-language content online, aimed to democratise the internet by promoting content that is accessible to non-English speaking Indians.

India has a remarkable diversity in terms of languages written and spoken in different parts of the country. There are 270 identifiable mother tongues spoken by 10,000 or more people and 22 official languages which account for the mother tongue of 96.72% of Indians.
