The automotive industry of the near future is likely to be very different to that which currently exists. Ownership will be replaced by sharing, fossil fuels by electricity, and the idea of an isolated box by that of the connected car. Dan Freedman, director of motor development at Direct Line Group, the insurance business, told a panel session during Automotive Research, a conference held by the Market Research Society in central London in June 2016, that the auto industry is "on the cusp of a revolution", with disruptive technology...
