When Pluto TV launched in the US back in 2014, it was swimming against the tide as an AVOD service.
“Back then nobody was talking about AVOD,” noted Olivier Jollet, managing director Europe for Pluto TV, during the Mediatel Future of TV Advertising virtual conference (London, June 2020). “Everybody was talking about SVOD being the future of TV.”
They’d bought into the idea that the focus should be on people who would pay for getting rid of ads. And SVOD has become incredibly popular, Jollet allowed, “but it’s not the only game in town”.
