Toyota, the automaker, is attempting to transform the future of retail by making mobile commerce apply to actual stores, and not just devices.

Toyota might be one of the world's biggest automakers, but it is an unlikely harbinger for a new, futuristic business model that seeks to transform the retail industry.

The embodiment of the Totoya's revolutionary vision is, arguably, stranger still. More specifically, it is developing an electric, modular self-driving vehicle – called "e-Palette" – that can be customized depending on the commercial use a particular customer chooses. Given that these semi-transparent boxes will vary between four and seven meters in length, Toyota believes they are potentially the ideal venue for various retail activities.

And it's convinced the likes of Pizza Hut...
