Having opened its first store in Brazil nearly four decades ago, apparel chain C&A was serving the country's style-conscious shoppers long before the idea of the BRICs became fashionable.

The company – which is based in the Netherlands, and has over 1,575 stores across Europe, from Germany and France to Poland and Serbia – today runs more than 290 branches in Brazil, collectively receiving 30 million visitors a month.
