Crayola, a crayon brand, released a new product line, Colors of the World, to better reflect the range of skin tones found in the US today.

Part One – Introduction and Strategy

Our strategic idea was to help every child create their place in the world by giving them the power to color themselves into it. We first needed to ask ourselves: why is equal & accurate representation important to parents, teachers, and children?

We discovered two things:

First, we live in a country where controlling who is represented has been part of our national narrative for centuries. Parents & teachers of young children today understand that taking back control of that narrative is one of the first steps needed to make our increasingly diverse nation...
