Mariles Gustilo got into advertising by chance when she returned to the Philippines after finishing a degree at Boston University and a two-year stint in publishing in New York. Because the country's publishing industry was still nascent, someone suggested she look into advertising, which was more developed. That was in 1985 and she has only worked in two agencies since: McCann Erickson and Lowe.
