In March 2009 Facebook overtook email as the web's most popular communications tool (source: Nielsen Global Faces and Network Places) and social networking websites - also known as social media - now draw audiences from all regions and demographics.
At the time of writing, the global audience for Twitter, the micro-blogging site, is still small at six million source: ComScore, January 2009) but the site is riding a similar wave of media and celebrity endorsements as that which lifted Facebook. Mobile platforms offer further opportunities for social networking to grow....
