The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak caused a rapid increase in video streaming but it's advertising-supported (AVOD) services that have gained the most in the first half of 2020, according to data from Comscore.
Ad-supported OTT video services, including platforms like CBS All Access and ESPN, grew their household reach on connected TV devices by 9.0% between January and April 2020. In comparison, services that aren't ad-supported (SVOD), like Disney+ and Netflix, grew their reach by 4.7%.
