By any measure, the first half of 2020 was disastrous for the travel industry. Online travel sales in the U.S. are predicted to plunge nearly 45 percent from 2019 levels, according to eMarketer, and a full recovery is not expected until 2022. The U.S. hotel industry, meanwhile, is projecting a 52 percent decline in revenue per available room (RevPAR), according to STR and Tourism Economics, a hotel analytics and benchmarking firm.
