Since 1917, NAACP ATL has existed to secure the equality of rights and eliminate race-based discrimination. Eliminating symbols of hatred—specifically, Confederate monuments—is essential to their mission. As police brutality and racism protests continue today, Confederate symbols continue to stand. A few of these more obvious monuments have been taken down already, either by the local governments themselves or by activist citizens and protest groups.
