The value of sales on Amazon reached nearly $500bn last year as third-party sellers continue to drive growth, according to data from Marketplace Pulse.
The company's total gross merchandise volume (GMV) – the value of platform sales –rose 42% in 2020 to reach $475bn. This is twice as fast as the increase in 2019 (+21%).
Third-party sellers continue to grow quicker than Amazon's own products and account for a larger share of sales value. They are now equal to almost $300bn, having grown by one-half (48%) in 2020.
