Homicide is one of the leading causes of death for Indigenous women. Some Canadians are aware of the most sensational stories but view these as isolated incidents or regional issues. The reality is that an Indigenous woman living in Canada today is 12 times more likely to die by homicide than her non-Indigenous counterpart.
