The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a country-wide lockdown due to which people were scared and low on morale. The lockdown caused a rise in unemployment because of the adverse impact on businesses.

Nearly 40 million migrant workers lost their jobs as soon as the lockdown was announced and over 2.6 million migrant workers were stranded, of which only 10% were in relief camps or shelter homes, while 43% were stuck at their place of work, with limited to no option of going back home.
