13-16 year-olds prefer TikTok over Facebook

An overview of social media penetration by age group in the United States.

More 13-16 year-olds use TikTok than Facebook in the United States, according to the latest data from Morning Consult. This year, 45% of 13-16 year-olds said they use the short-form video app, compared to 43% who use Facebook.

However, while Facebook penetration rises with age, TikTok sees its popularity fall. One in ten 32-38 year-olds use TikTok, compared to over four-fifths who use Facebook.

Twitch also sees its popularity decline among older groups, reaching one-third of 13-16 year olds but falling to 15% for those aged 32-38. Instagram and Snapchat follow the same trend, peaking with the 17-21...
