Reliance Jio: India's telco 'startup' with 100 million subscribers

Vishal Sampat, Chief Digital Officer at Reliance Jio, is not content with the 100 million plus subscribers they have amassed in under a year in India. Jio is targetting 1.2 billion subscribers (the entire population of India), he says, and that's the scale of the upstart's grand ambition to become the telecommunications category leader.

Reliance Jio famously disrupted the Indian telecom market in September 2016 by offering free voice and data to new subscribers, taking the bottom out of the price-driven category and directly challenging its major competitors, Vodafone and Airtel.
