A NEW ONLINE SERVICE that connects mobile phones to the Internet has been launched by Cellnet. Branded Genie, it is a dual system both for voice communication and receiving data on the phone’s screen. It is based on an Internet news service, accessible in the usual way via a PC. This offers an initial choice of six different information categories - including lifestyle, money, news, jobs and travel - and subscribers nominate their special interests, for example, the price of a specified share, within each sector. When away from their desks they can access their chosen sectors via the display panel on their digital phone, which can accommodate messages of up to 160 characters.
