SUNNYVALE, California: Yahoo is continuing its aggressive push into mobile advertising by expanding its domestic service into eighteen overseas markets. The internet search giant will deliver display ads to cellphones and other mobile devices in Mexico, Canada and 16 other countries in Europe, Asia and parts of South America.

The company says it has lined up commitments from several major advertisers, including Intel, PepsiCo and Procter & Gamble.

Yahoo has been showing mobile display ads in the US since November and, like its web rivals, is trying to develop more ways for marketers to reach consumers on the move.

The ads will run along the top of Yahoo's home page on the internet screens of mobile devices. Consumers can click on the interactive ads to learn more about an advertiser's offer or call the advertiser directly for details.

Comments Steve Boom, svp for mobile and broadband: "This is really about Yahoo staking out its leadership in the emerging space on the mobile phone."

He adds: "We have the three legs of the stool. We are not only building the advertising platform. We are actually building the advertising relationships with it. We also have the audience."
