Unlike some web audits, MMXI bases its figures on software that tracks the surfing habits of a 3,000-strong panel rather than verifying site-owners’ hit claims. However, the figures, covering a six month period, also take into account visits by UK surfers to Yahoo.com, the portal’s US site, as well as its other European-based sites. Although WAMN is not party to the official numbers, MMXI’s odd measurement methodology should leave FreeServe still as the UK’s Numero Uno site.
MMXI will also announce today (2-May-00) the results of another survey which indicates that 9.2m people in the UK accessed the internet in March.
