A soldier’s farewell was bid to WPP Group-owned Young & Rubicam Advertising by Linda J Srere, the network’s global president and longtime First Lady of Advertising.

“I just want to do something entrepreneurial, get back to the work, do something more fun again," explained New York-based Srere (46), insisting that it was “all my decision” to leave.

Appointed president in January 2000, after Y&R was acquired by WPP, Srere will not be replaced, according to agency sources. Instead, her duties will be spilt among her senior colleagues including chairman and chief executive Edward H Vick and Ron Bess, chair/ceo of the flagship New York unit.
